pegi-hoffman-copy1.jpgIn 1997, I moved to Florida with my kids, expecting my stay to be very short.  Somehow, I’ve never left.  It took me a long time, but I have finally come to love the state, and in particular, Gainesville.  In fact, I’ve come to love it so much that I am now a Realtor at Bosshardt Realty Services (if you’re in the market, call me at 352-682-9116!).  It’s wonderful to be able to share my love of this beautiful city with others who are moving in, or just moving around.

Originally, I started this blog to help me appreciate the beauty that surrounds me.  That goal has been accomplished in spades.  I plan to continue to document this beauty, but instead of working on my own appreciation of it, I intend to help others enjoy the scenery, or just learn where they can get away from civilization themselves.

None of the photos I post will be doctored in any way other than resizing, not even cropped.  These are straight out of the camera shots, and while I hope they will all be beautiful, they may miss the mark in terms of technical perfection.

  1. I, too, moved to Florida not expecting to stay. I’ve been here for 16 years now and have just within the last few years begun to appreciate the paradise it truly can be. North Florida for me – the swamps, the cypress trees, the alligators and massive huge insects…it’s all part of the charm. I hope you fall in love with it like I have. What you’re doing is a great way to try. Good luck to you!

  2. congrats on being freshly pressed! if not for that, I mightn’t have found your beautiful blog! WordPress does a fantastic job of selecting really excellent work!
I moved here 2 years ago from the north and LOVE it. My mother, on the other hand, arrived here 18 yrs ago and still doesn’t like it much. who can figure!?
anyway, glad to have dropped by..I for sure will be back. 🙂

  3. I really enjoy your blog! Great pictures, thank for for sharing! My husband and I spent six wonderful years in Gainesville (and Florida in general) and many hours walking trails, taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful nature. We now live in South Texas and I do what your blog is about: learning to love the place I’m in.
Looking forward to see more of your blog!

  5. You and I are doing somewhat the same thing–trying to post at least one photo a day of everyday things in Florida. I live in northeast Florida and have been here for over 30 years now, but I still consider myself a New Englander rather than a Floridian! There are still things I miss from Connecticut, but things I appreciate about living here. I started my blog to give myself a reason to go out and use my camera every day, and over a year and a half now I have been amazed at how much I can find to photograph–mostly in my own back yard!

  6. Thanks for stopping by and liking my post on “Beauty in the Ditch”. I grew up in Pensacola, Florida, which is where I took the photos in the post. You have some very nice shots of the colored water lilies. White was my only choice the day I took my shots.

    • That’s really cool! Pensacola is the first place I lived in Florida, and it’s where my grandmother lived, so I’ve spent quite a bit of time there. Come to think of it, I can’t remember ever seeing anything but white water lilies in Pensacola, although there may have been a few yellow ones off Scenic Highway.
If you look through my posts, there are a few from Pensacola. The only name I remember right now is Gimme Beads, from Mardi Gras.
