Roads where dreams live

Just over the DeLand city limits, there is a little town named Lake Helen that prides itself on its slow way of life.  There are no WalMarts, no Targets, nor a single Starbucks in this little town.  What it does have is lots of beautiful Victorians and Gothic houses, the kind I like to dream about, and quiet streets with tree tunnels.  It doesn’t seem to be a tourist trap of a quaint town, just a living city that shuns modernity.

I happened to be there just as the sun was beginning to set, which is the perfect light for a town like this.  A little bit dreamy, a little bit slow, and just a little more beautiful than you can stand.

Just in case you didn’t notice it, I would like to point out that there are SIDEWALKS in these pictures!  Sidewalks in Florida!  In fact, DeLand has them, too.  For the last 15 years, I have not been able to walk anywhere, so this is a wonderful change for me.
