The tree stands alone

Almost every day I pass by this magnificent oak tree that stands slightly apart from the other trees in the park.  The other trees are mostly pines, with some smaller oaks mixed in.  None of the other trees compare to this one for spread or beauty.  It has just gotten its new leaves, so it is particularly green today, and the sky is wonderfully blue to complement it.

As beautiful as the tree is to look at, it is really something to be under it.  The shade is so dense that it is immediately noticeable on a warm day, but the light filters in so beautifully, tinged with the green of the leaves.  It reminds me of the light in my grandmother’s kitchen where a similar oak tree shaded the window.  This is a tree to relax under with a good book.
